DISCOVER THE SPIRIT OF FLAMENCO

The Centre of Contemporary Culture La Cartuja de Cazalla organizes a practical course to introduce into the world of flamenco art and culture: “The Spirit of Flamenco”.

In this course we propose you to discover a way of liberation and encounter, the playful and healing power of an immemorial art form. A proposal that pretends to show you the therapeutic value of this music and dance, and introduce the men and women who believe in the creative sense of life into the subtle, deep and mysterious world of flamenco.

An encounter that will serve to develop your creative instinct and improve your physical and spiritual health through music and dance. A course that will help to know and get to know, that will provide the keys to understand an art form from another perspective, that opens the way to health, creation and knowledge.

The 8 day program is situated at La Cartuja de Cazalla and besides the workshops “The Spirit of Flamenco” will consist of a concert by the teachers of the course and several excursions in the area.

The Teachers

The workshop will be led by Karmenza, healer, flamenco singer and teacher, Pedro de Morales, philologist, guitarist, teacher and poet, and Linda Hajema, business women, dance teacher and translator-interpreter. The course will be given in Spanish and English.

La Cartuja de Cazalla

La Cartuja is a former Carthusian Monastery, located in Cazalla de la Sierra, in the heart of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla, a beautiful and peaceful natural spot in Andalusia. The ruins were rescued by Carmen Ladrón de Guevara and converted into a Centre of Modern Art and Guest House, for which she has obtained recognition through the international awards Europa Nostra, for the Conservation of an Historical Patrimony and its Environment and the Rolex Award, for Spirit of Enterprise.

Without the superfluous luxury of an conventional hotel, an ideal place to rest, where one can enjoy various cultural and leisure activities. Its restaurant offers ecological products: chicken, lamb, eggs and vegetables from the monastery garden. This historic place also has exhibition and concert rooms, art gallery and artisan studio.

The first opportunity to participate in this course will be from March 23rd to 30th and later we will repeat from September 28th to October 5th, 2008.
